Buying a gift for someone with a Breville espresso machine is easy to get wrong. Most espresso tools come in a specific size, and Breville’s home machines don’t use the common 58mm size that a lot of gift lists assume. A beautiful tamper that doesn’t fit the basket ends up in a drawer.
So this list does two things. It sticks to gifts under $50 that a home barista will actually use every morning, and it tells you which ones fit any machine and which ones only fit Breville’s 54mm portafilters. We have not tested these products ourselves. The picks are based on manufacturer specs, Amazon listings checked on 15 October 2026, and what matters for Breville owners.

Before you buy: check their portafilter size
Breville’s Bambino, Bambino Plus, Barista Express, Barista Pro and Barista Touch all use a 54mm portafilter. Tools that sit inside the basket, like tampers and puck screens, need to be about 53.3mm to fit it. Breville’s larger machines, such as the Oracle and Dual Boiler, use 58mm instead.
If you’re not sure which machine they have, stick to the gifts marked “any machine” below: scales and WDT tools don’t depend on basket size. If you can sneak a look at the machine, our Breville portafilter size guide shows which model uses which size.

Gifts that fit any espresso machine
1. Normcore WDT Tool V2.1: Best Gift Overall
A WDT tool is a handle with fine needles that stir ground coffee before tamping. It breaks up the clumps that Breville’s built-in grinders are known for, which helps the water flow more evenly through the coffee. It’s cheap, it’s used every single shot, and most new Breville owners don’t own one yet. That makes it close to the perfect gift.
- 8 needles, 0.23mm stainless steel, with a stand and 16 spare needles
- $23.69, rated about 4.6 out of 5 from around 470 ratings
- Watch out for: fine needles can bend if pushed hard into packed coffee

2. brikinte Upgraded WDT Tool: Best Stocking Stuffer
If the budget is tight, this is the same idea for about half the price. It has a magnetic base that keeps it upright on the counter. The needles are thicker than Normcore’s, so it disturbs the coffee bed a little more, but for someone who has never tried WDT it’s an easy way to find out if they like it.
- 0.4mm stainless steel needles, plastic body, magnetic base
- $12.99, rated about 4.7 out of 5 from around 240 ratings
- Watch out for: the plastic body feels less premium than metal tools
3. Subminimal Flick WDT Tool: Best for Design Lovers
The Flick hides its needles inside the handle and releases them with a magnetic click. It looks good on a counter, protects the needles, and is safer in a kitchen with kids around. It’s the WDT tool to pick when the gift should feel a little special.
- Retractable needles, two spare needle sets included
- $29.00, rated about 4.6 out of 5 from around 870 ratings
- Watch out for: the listing doesn’t state the needle thickness
4. Maestri House S2 Espresso Scale: Best Scale Gift
Weighing coffee in and espresso out is the single habit that makes shots most consistent, and plenty of Breville owners still guess. The Maestri House S2 has a built-in timer and a rechargeable battery, so it covers both measurements at the drip tray. If they’re new to weighing, our guide on how to use an espresso scale makes a nice note to tuck in with it.
- 0.1 g resolution up to 2,000 g, built-in timer, USB-C charging
- About 105 × 105 × 20 mm
- About $30, rated about 4.4 out of 5 from around 4,500 ratings
- Watch out for: check that it fits under their machine; Bambino drip trays are short (see our low-profile espresso scales guide)
5. Greater Goods 750 g Espresso Scale: Cheapest Useful Scale
At $17.99 this is the lowest-cost way to give someone accurate dosing. It’s slim and has by far the most ratings of anything on this list. It has no timer, so it’s best for weighing beans and grounds, with a phone timer for the shot.
- 0.1 g display, 750 g capacity, 5.7 × 3 × 0.7 in
- $17.99, rated about 4.6 out of 5 from around 9,200 ratings
- Watch out for: no built-in timer

Gifts for Breville 54mm machines only
These fit the Bambino, Bambino Plus, Barista Express, Barista Pro and Barista Touch. Skip them if the person has a 58mm machine.
6. Normcore 53.3mm Puck Screen: Best Budget Gift
A puck screen is a thin metal disc that sits on top of the coffee before brewing. It spreads the water more evenly and keeps the machine’s shower screen cleaner, which means less scrubbing. At $13.99 it’s one of the cheapest upgrades a Breville owner can make, and one they’re unlikely to buy for themselves.
- 53.3mm, 0.8mm thick, 316 stainless steel
- $13.99, rated about 4.7 out of 5 from around 1,100 ratings
- Watch out for: it adds a little height in the basket, so they may need a slightly smaller dose
7. Breville 54mm Dosing Funnel: Best Official Accessory
A dosing funnel sits on top of the portafilter so ground coffee doesn’t spill over the edge while grinding or stirring. This is Breville’s own version, so the fit is guaranteed. It isn’t magnetic, so it’s lifted on and off by hand.
- Official Breville accessory for 54mm portafilters
- $17.95, rated about 4.7 out of 5 from around 1,290 ratings
- Watch out for: not magnetic; few published specs
8. Normcore 54mm Magnetic Dosing Funnel V2: Best for Bambino Owners
The Normcore funnel holds onto the portafilter with magnets, so it stays put while they stir with a WDT tool. Pair it with gift #1 and you have a complete puck-prep set for under $50. One catch: Normcore says it can’t be used while the portafilter sits in the Barista Express’s built-in grinder cradle, so for Barista Express owners, choose the Breville funnel above.
- 54mm, anodized aluminium, magnetic, 18mm tall
- $23.99, rated about 4.7 out of 5 from around 1,300 ratings
- Watch out for: doesn’t work in the Barista Express grinder cradle

9. Normcore V4 Spring-Loaded Tamper 53.3mm: The Splurge Gift
The plastic tamper that comes with most Breville machines is light and easy to tilt. The Normcore V4 is heavy, sized for 54mm baskets, and spring-loaded, so it presses with the same force every time and sits level on the basket rim. It’s the gift that feels most like a real upgrade.
- 53.3mm flat base, 15, 25 and 30 lb springs included, stand included
- $42.29, rated about 4.6 out of 5 from around 3,370 ratings
- Watch out for: the most expensive pick here, and only for 54mm baskets

Gifts to skip
- 58mm tampers and puck screens: they won’t fit a Bambino or Barista Express basket.
- Generic “barista kits” with a dozen pieces: they often include a tamper in the wrong size and tools they’ll never use.
- Cheap kitchen scales: most respond too slowly to track a shot as it pours. Get a scale made for espresso, even the $18 one above.
If they already own the basics, look at our Breville Barista Express accessories or Bambino Plus accessories guides for bigger upgrades, or a hand grinder for espresso under $200 if the budget stretches.
Frequently asked questions
What size tamper fits a Breville espresso machine?
The Bambino, Bambino Plus, Barista Express, Barista Pro and Barista Touch use a 54mm portafilter, and a 53.3mm tamper fits their baskets. Breville’s larger machines, such as the Oracle and Dual Boiler, take 58mm.
What’s a good espresso gift if I don’t know their machine?
A WDT tool or an espresso scale. Neither depends on basket size, so they work with any espresso machine.
Will an espresso scale fit under a Breville Bambino?
Not every scale does, because the Bambino has a short space between the drip tray and the portafilter. Slim scales fit best. Our low-profile espresso scales guide lists options with their dimensions.
Are these gifts useful for a beginner?
Yes, and beginners often get the most out of them. A scale and a WDT tool fix the two most common causes of inconsistent shots: guessing the dose and clumpy grounds.
Our verdict
For most Breville owners, the Normcore WDT Tool V2.1 is the best gift under $50: it fits any machine, gets used every shot, and costs under $25. If you know they have a 54mm Breville, add the $13.99 Normcore puck screen. For a scale, the Maestri House S2 is the pick with a timer, and the Greater Goods 750 g is the budget choice.
